Telethon Raises Over $5000

St. Thomas’s first ever Animal Telethon raised over $5000 to assist the dire need of local rescue groups to help abandoned and homeless animals. The money, raised by the newly formed Animal Coalition, will be split between the 5 groups comprised of All Breed Canine Rescue, Animal Aide of St. Thomas, Another Chance Wildlife, Pets Friends for Life, and the St. Thomas Dog Owners Association.

The Doggie Fashion Show was a big hit with everyone, young and old alike.

Our own Sandy Craig provided some MC work as she interviewed STDOA members about our work in animal rescue.

Thank You to everyone who participated in any way and gave up part of their Sunday for this great cause. And Thank You to the Mayor Heather Jackson-Chapman and an anonymous donor for covering the rental cost of the arena.

And Tony Bouma of Animal Aide, proving the good sport and gentleman he is, fulfilled his promise to shave his head if $5000 was reached. He was shaved on TV towards the end of the event by a dog groomer. Way to go, Tony!! No picture of the Tony getting shorn, but we’ll leave you with a picture of the cutest guy at the Telethon…

Telethon costs covered

Due to generosity of St. Thomas Mayor Heather Jackson-Chapman, and an anonymous donor, the cost of the first Animal Coalition Telethon has been covered. The Memorial Arena $800 rental fee for the Telethon on Dec. 11th was split 50/50 by the Mayor and the donor.
The purpose of the Telethon was to raise funds to cover animal services not covered by City Hall and Elgin County. Now that the cost of the arena has been covered, any money raised went directly toward the groups trying to address the current dire need.
Currently, animal related volunteer groups contribute about $500,000 citywide to cover the slack in City and County services.
With the leadership shown by the Mayor and the donor stepping up, we hope you will too, and tune in to Rogers on Dec. 11th to give the best you can. Thank You Mayor, and Donor. More… St. Thomas Dog Blog
