Dog Show & Fire Muster

The Dog Show at the St. Thomas Fire Muster on the Labor Day Weekend is a fun event with prizes in a relaxed atmosphere, and anyone can enter.  There are prizes for cutest dog, best trick, best costume, etc.  As you can see from the pictures below from the past, the Dog Show is always well attended and is a great event for kids.  And it’s perfectly ok to dress up your dog as a Dalmation.  We also had a fund raising booth again for the 2nd year in 2010, which raised money for various projects.  Bottom right, our booth in 2009 which was a great success and raised money for the what would later become the Lions Club Dog Park.  The Fire Muster is significant because we began getting petitions signed for a dog park back in 2002.  The first money ever raised for the Lions Club Dog Park came from a donation jar at a table selling T-shirts at the Fire Muster.

The Fire Muster, in its 28th year in 2010, is one of the best events in Southwestern Ontario, with games, food, vendors, and music, and lots to see.  There is also a great car show on Sunday.  If you enjoy seeing old fire engines, Saturday is best for viewing as many head back to the States on Sunday.  This family event is free, donation at the boot toll.

Above, a few of the things we made available at the Fire Muster besides our T-shirts and other goodies:  Rescue Me Decals for your doors (2 for $5), Paw Print temporary tattoos (25 cents each or donation), a $100 gift basket from Home Away From Home that also included 2 nights of boarding.  Also for raffle was a $175 gift certificate from Painted Paws of St. Thomas for your dog’s portrait (examples below), a $50 gift certificate from Elgin Pet, and a Certificate for a batch of wine from the Wine Station of St. Thomas.

The St. Thomas Dog Owners Association is a non-profit organization that promotes off leash dog parks and supports responsible dog ownership and the welfare of dogs.
